"WOMBWELL CLOSE TO 4TH IN LAST NORTHERN LEAGUE "

02.08.2009 - Wombwell Sporting AC missed out on 4th place overall in the Northern League by the narrowest of margins. The provisional reaults show that Wombwell missed out on 4th place by 13 points. We had to beat Longwood by 2 clear positions or 60 match points. This proved a little bit difficult during the day, but Wombwell gave them a fight. Adam Murray ran well in the 200m and showed good potential in the men's High Jump. Darren Naylor won the 3,000m steeplechase. Sisters Adele Murray and Coleen Molyneux competed well for the club in the throwing events with some pb's and vital points. Samantha Johnson gave us a thrilling finish in the women's 800m just missing out on 3rd spot to Longwood's Jordaine Allison right on the line. Scott Wilson, Dave Allemby, Lee Silcock and Andy Hughes also competed and gave some good performances throughout the day. The men's 4 x 100m relay squad of Adam Murray, Andy Hughes, Lee Silcock and Darren Naylor did the job of beating Longwood with a clear margin. A special thanks must also go to Janette Tomlins who has dedicated much of her time throughout the season and officiated at every league event without fail. We must remember that we also get points for officials and this is important if we want to improve for next year. This season has been a stepping stone to bigger and better things and if Wombwell can build on the strengths of the season there is no reason why we we cant fight for promotion in 2010..

"WOMBWELL FINISHES IN 4th PLACE OVERALL AHEAD OF BARNSLEY AC "

18.07.2009 - The South Yorkshire Track and Field season is now over and Wombwell has finished in 4th place overall ahead of Barnsley AC and Hallamshire Harriers. There were some good debut performances by some of our new members. Wombwell had a team of over THIRTY athletes (the strongest team in a long time).. Going into the final fixture Wombwell had a job to do, to stay in front of Bansley AC and beat them for the first time in well over 15 years but by the end of the day we had beaten them by 200 points. There were some good debut performances by some of our new members.. notable good performances were by Sam Ackroyd in the U11 600m, Matthew Pinder and Hannah Lincoln in the U11 80m, Emma Lucas in the Cricket Ball. All members performed well and every member was vital to our huge success. I just hope the team continues to grow and improve, and maybe next year we may even finish in the top three??

"WOMBWELL FINISHED 3rd PLACE IN NORTHERN LEAGUE "

05.07.2009 - Wombwell SAC today finished 3rd place in the Northern Track & Field League. 3rd place is the best result we have had in this league since the Men's and Women's League merged in 2003. We beat Hull Achilles, Grimsby AC and Longwood Harriers. In the previous two fixture, Wombwell could only manage 5th and 6th place, so a 3rd place is amazing! Well done to: Amanda Hunt, Carl Hulett, Lee Silcock, Adam Murray, Samantha Johnson, Scott Wilson, Dave Allemby, Rachel Yarwood, Adele Murray, Andy Hughes, Gail Colville, Darren Naylor and the new team mascot Benj!. A special thanks to Janette Tomlins and everyone who helped with officiating..

"WOMBWELL CLIMBING SOUTH YORKSHIRE LEAGUE TABLE "

05.07.2009 -Wombwell SAC have recently climbed to 4th in the South Yorkshire League Table. One or two of the other teams have struggled to get athletes to competitions. Wombwell however, has had strong turnouts at every South Yorkshire League fixture and this is the reason why we are in 4th place and closing the gap on the big three who havent struggled with numbers(City of Sheffield, Rotherham Harriers, Doncaster AC). This is good news for Wombwell who were this time last year stuck in a distant 6th place with no hope of climbing the league.. We have one fixture to go (one for all age groups). Please try and get there so we can hold on to 4th place and maybe close the gap on 3rd! Well done to everyone who has competed this season!
