  • BROTHER AND SISTER SHOW THE WAY

17/01/2012 - The weather caused changes to be made at the last minute to the courses for the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships held in Thornes Park, Wakeield on Saturday 7th January - a tree was blown down and the heavy rain made one down hill portion unsafe. Strong winds made running very difficult especially for the younger athletes. Two members from Wombwell Sporting Athletics Club competed and both produced excellent runs. In the girls 11-13 race over a 3,000m course Alice Moore started strongly and was able to maintain her pace throughout to finish in 15th position in a time of 11.53. In this race Alice defeated several South Yorkshire athletes who had beaten her throughout the South Yorkshire League series which was very satisfying. Brother Harry competed in the boys 13-15 4,500m race and ran strongly throughout finishing in 13th position in a time of 16.36. He also beat several South Yorkshire athletes who have beaten him throughout the South Yorkshire league series. These races were a good preparation for the North of England Championships to be held in Pontefract later in the month.
